Summer Counseling Corner

Welcome!

The counseling program at Durham MIddle School is preventive as well as developmental.  Activities and opportunities are created to help meet the needs of all students.  Our guidance plan allows students to work with their counselors in individual counseling, small group counseling, or classroom guidance instruction.  It is our goal to work with parents, teachers, and administrators to help our students have the most successful year possible.

What's Up?

• New to our area?  See our link on the Durham Counselor page for a registration form and information that you will need to bring with you to register.
• Keep in mind that immunizations are not an option. All students are required by GA law to have MMRs, Hepititis B, and  two varicella shots if they have not been diagnosed with the disease. These shots are available at your pediatrician's office or local health departments. Like all GA schools, our school must submit to an audit by the health department. If you get a call or letter saying your child is lacking a shot, please provide the documentation proving the immunization. Our goal is 100% compliance. 
• Parents, if you can remember your middle schooler's transition to middle school, please send us any suggestions for ways to make it smoother. We welcome your ideas! (The students have recommended long recesses... : ) )

• July 21st Registration, 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00
• July 29th Pizza with the Principal, 11:00-12:30
• August 7th Orientation...meet your homeroom and team teachers.
• August 6th Testing for out of state students/homeschooled students/private school students. 9:00-12:00.
• August 10th First day of school.

• Students should be practicing keyboarding skills to get ready for our 21st century technology.
