All Orchestra Classes: I handed out practice sheets today. They are in a different format than last year, so let me know if you have any questions. I explained the sheets at length in class today, and I am confident that most students know the routine. As a means of reinforcing responsibility, I will only be accepting the sheets that I hand out in class (no handmade or personally made sheets from home). If a sheet gets lost, I have a limited number of extras in my room on the bulletin board.
Parents, I am asking that you please sign your child's sheet at the end of every 2 weeks for verification that your child is practicing. Thanks!
6th Grade: Playing test on Wednesday will be in two parts: 1. D major scale, pizzicato, play and say the notes. 2. Bowing on the open D string. Also, we will be working in the theory book this week!
7th Grade: Today I also handed out uniform information. If you missed your chance to purchase a lightly used uniform at the end of last year (for a discounted price) you will need to order this uniform. This uniform will be the standard attire for most of our concerts for the next 2 years. If you have questions about sizing, please call the 800 number on the sheet. Circle the size that is appropriate for your child and turn in the form to me. Payment is made to "Durham Middle School" and goes in a school envelope, dropped off in the safe.
Students should be working out of book 2 in addition to O Waly Waly and Forrest Gump. They will need their theory books by the end of this week.
8th Grade: Students are working well on Chronicles of Narnia, Final Countdown, and Harry Potter. Please encourage them in practicing, especially the hard parts. They should also be practicing shifting and vibrato. Music theory books need to be here by the end of the week!
