May 12-16

Class Notes:

May 12th- Writing test- We only see Blocks 1,2, and 3.  Today we will be presenting your Oceania projects.

May 13th- Personal Finance unit- go over Buying a House and Taxes.  Almost There Assessment on Personal Finance (will not be a grade)

May 14th- Review Personal Finance and have presentations

May 15th- Test on Personal Finance Unit- will be open notes, last test grade of the nine weeks.

May 16th- We only see Blocks 3, 6, and 7- we will have presentations on the Oceania projects.

May 5-9

Class Notes and Homework for May 5-9

Homework due May 6th- simple interest problems from Savings packet

May 5th- we read the Savings packet and went over the vocabulary for personal finance.  Vocab words are income, spending, credit, saving, and investing.  These vocabulary words were homework from last Thursday.  I took them up on Friday May 2nd.

May 6th, 7th, and 8th we will have the laptops in the classroom to work on the projects.  This is your travel project on Australia/Oceania.  You should have directions and a rubric.  Hopefully by Friday we will be mostly finished with the project and ready to present by Monday, May 12th.  May 7th, I will be giving out a homework assignment on buying a house.  You will have two days to complete it, because you will need to talk to your parents or do some research outside of school to find out averages prices of certain items related to owning a home.

Our personal finance unit will finish up next week with a test on May 15th.

April 21-25

Class Notes:

This week we will be continuing our review for the CRCT Social Studies test.  Our warm-ups will be map skills as well as some charts, graphs, and timelines.  I will take up the warm-ups on Friday just as I have for the past two weeks.  On Monday, April 21st, we will be reviewing Latin America and Canada with Senteo on the Smartboard.  Tuesday- Friday we will work mostly on map skills with a focus on the regions that we studied this year.  Remember the CRCTs begin Wednesday.  Please ask at home for pencils so that you can have plenty to bring with you during the testing week.

April 17-19

Class Notes:

This week we are practicing for the CRCT which is next week.  The CRCT pep rally is Monday- please wear your 2008 Olympic t-shirt Monday.  Have a great week and weekend.  No homework.

Class Notes:

Today we talked about the economy and culture of Australia and Oceania.  Homework is the question at the bottom of the worksheet on Economic Systems and Trade.  You need to write a one paragraph response to the question:

On the back of this paper discuss the impact of size, physical geography, and natural resources of a country on the economy of that country.

Tomorrow 4/15 and 4/16 we will begin practicing for the CRCT with Skillstutor, using the laptops.

4/17 we will finish with economics and culture and begin a Senteo review for the CRCT, which will continue through the beginning of the CRCTs next week.

Thursday, there will be an early help session geared toward CRCT practice for Social Studies from 7:50-8:50.

Thursday- European colonization and questions; we read the government article together.

Friday- Finish government; Economic Activity

No homework- have a Happy Spring Break!!

Class Notes: Today we finished our discussion of the Aboriginal and Maori tribes in Australia and New Zealand. We began reading and talking about the European exploration in Australia and Oceania. No homework.

Class Notes:

Today we labeled a map of Oceania and worked on an open notes quiz on the physical features of Australia and Oceania.  You should work for 20 minutes on the quiz at home tonight and then finish it tomorrow in class.  Have your parents sign where you left off after 20 minutes of work.  Be prepared for Thursday events during the Olympics tomorrow in case of rain.
