Media-Related Career: Rubric

• Notes due Wednesday March 12, 2008 (classwork grade)

• Rough Draft due Wednesday March 12, 2008 (classwork grade)

• Final Draft due Friday March 14, 2008 (project/test grade)

You will write 5 paragraphs on whether on or not the career you selected to research would be a good career for you. You should use the notes you took to support your statements. You have Tuesday and Wednesday to complete the rough draft. You will turn in the rough draft at the end of class both Tues. and Wed. You will receive 20 points for each paragraph completed at the end of class Wednesday. You will have Thursday and Friday to complete your final draft. Your final drafts will be turned in both Thursday and Friday. The final draft will be graded on the rubric below while the rough draft will be graded only on paragraphs completed. A completed paragraph will consist of 5-7 sentences.

0-10 pts Essay has title

0-10 pts Essay has proper number of paragraphs

0-20 pts Essay designates whether or not career would be good for you or not

0-20 pts Essay uses facts from notes to support reasons why or why not

0-10 pts Essay properly indented so that paragraphs are easily defined

0-10 pts No spelling errors

0-10 pts No sentence fragments

0-10 pts No capitalization errors

5 Paragraph Essay Instructions

5 Paragraph Written Essay

You will be writing a 5 paragraph essay on whether or not the career you selected to research would be a good career for you.  You must support this statement by giving reasons why and/or why not. 

1.    Step One:  Gather information on MEDIA RELATED CAREER

2.    Go to www.careercruising.com

3.    Log in using

4.     Click on on the left side of the page

5.     Click on in the middle of the page.

6.    Click on located on the left side of the page.

7.    You may pick any career in this cluster that is related to media…this includes print (magazines, newspaper, books, etc), audio (radio, etc), or visual (television).  Anything related to any form of these types of media will work.  A professional athlete, doctor, tattoo artist…etc…will NOT work! 

8.    Click on the career you select.  The first screen to pop up will be job description.  Take accurate notes on the job description. 

9.    Next, click on “working conditions” on the left.  Write down the conditions under which you would be working in this career.

10. Next, click on “earnings” and record the “

average annual salary” for this career.

11. Next, click on “career path” and record each LEVEL of the career (the title), the responsibilities of each level, and the median salary for each level.

12. Next, click on “related jobs” and record 3 related jobs.

13. Next, click on one person’s name under INTERVIEWS, then go down and click on “Breakdown of Activities.”  Here, record ALL the activities you would ENJOY in this career, and all the activities you would NOT enjoy. This will help you GREATLY in writing your essay!! 

14. You are finished researching your career!  Now go back and use any time you have left looking at the interviews of the people and reading “A Day in the Life” under the Interview section.

Media Tech - All Grades

This 9 weeks, Media Tech will start with an introduction to media communications and students will then be introduced into the modules based on their choices.  Students will be rotating through 10 different module choices.  Students will be in each module for 10 days.  Students will go through approximately 3 modules during the 9 week period.    The modules include:  TV broadcasting, Audio broadcasting, Audacity, Podcasting, Yearbook, PhotoStory, MovieMaker, Photoshop, MS Publisher, and PowerPoint.
