Welcome to Studio 711, art class for the 4th nine weeks. We have just completed in our last nine weeks an amazing mural! The Durham Heritage Project was completed through a grant from the Georgia Council of the Arts, with Artist in Residence Pam Beagle-Daresta. To share with the students from the 4th nine weeks, we have been talking about the mural in relation to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. We have also explored topics on the four inspirational subjects that artists paint from.We also have completed a pencil rendering of a still life, with fresh fruits and vegetables that were grown on the Durham land. Each class is presently  working on a 2D drawing.

Each student needs for class on a daily basis, a pencil with eraser, their agenda, and a pocket folder. A black sharpie marker will be needed for our drawing assignment.

It would be very appreciated if each student could send in a box of baby wipes. We use these for hands, tables and spills!

I look forward in teaching your child!

Art News

All classes are working on The Durham Mural Project in their art classes. We have been awarded the Georgia Council of the Arts Grant which has honored us with the artist in residence, Pam Beagle-Daresta. "Ms. Pam" and I have been working with the students on the history of the Durham family, the farm, and much of the history of the West Cobb area. The last two weeks has been used for concept development of of what the mural might include. We have worked on sketches from research, still life studies, and have learned many drawing skills from value shading to proportion. We are now in the process of griding the large mural panels, in which we will enlarge our concepts to a 1to 6 ratio. The week of Feb. 25 will begin our actual painting. This has been a very exciting and valuable learning experience for our students! The dedication for the Mural will be sometime in the spring. All parents and students are invited.

The week of Feb. 18, we will finish landscape paintings.

The annual Durham Art Show is Feb. 28, 2008 @ 6:30. See you then!
