Week of May 12th

Greetings to all my students!  It will be a crazy week as I prepare for the 8th grade musical!  We will be busy in class and it is important you continue (or begin in some cases) to write your agenda.  We still have 9 days left! 

All classes are up to Chapter 11 in the novel and have completed the questions.  Blocks 3, 4, and 5 began Literature Cirlces today and will finish tomorrow.

Blocks 6 and 7 will play catch up tomorrow.

QUIZ ON FRIDAY! 

We used some "SMART" review today and I hope you marked your packet with the words that will be on the quiz!  Words to know:   Income, spending, credit, saving, investing, simple interest, compound interest, inflation. interest, withdraw, deposit, certificate of deposit, savings, debit card, stocks, stock exchange, bonds, security, mutual fund, profit, credit history, furs and tobacco, ytd % chg, 52 wks HI/LO, trust

EXTRA CREDIT:  Can you figure out the compound interest on $100 at 5% for a year?

Race_car Grades are updated on i-parent.  Don't quit now...the end is near!

Happy PJ Day!  Thank you so much for your support of Mr. Edward's Memorial Garden!  We raised over $800 through the efforts of students and staff.  Looks like you are making dreams come true! 

On Level:  Portfolios wil be collected tomorrow and checked for the following:  Journal #1 and #2, Comparison Picture (Jo'burg and Township), Chapter 1-6 questions completed and your comic strip.

4951842 PJ Day is on May 7.  Remember the donation is $2 and will go to benefit the Edwards Memorial Garden.  The novel study continues! 

All classes read up to chapter 6 in the novel (if you aren't there-you need to check out a book from me) and created a 6 panel comic strip.  Each panel will contain a picture of an event from the chapter...NO WORDS!  The comic strip is NOT homework, we will work on this tomorrow.  We will also be going to the outside classroom to read our novels.

Brick Please consider donating a commemorative brick to be placed in the Edwards Memorial Garden.  You will be a permanent part of Durham  for only $50.  The brick sales will help us raise funds to make the garden a reality!

On Level:  We put together our novel folders.  Today we completed our 2nd journal entry:  "How does historical fiction help you understand a time period better?"  We also discussed Chapter 3 and 4 and read Chapter 5.

Happy Friday!  Has this been the longest week ever? 

Blocks 3, 4 and 6:  Students who did not finish their contrast picture (Sipho's township and Jo'burg) will need to do so for homework.  Blocks 4 and 6 will turn in the personal finance packet on Monday!

Blocks 5 and 7:  Personal finance packets were turned in today.  Students are to read Chapters 3 and 4 in the Samurai's Tale and answer the questions.

On Level:  Block 3 will turn in the personal finance packet on Friday.  This is two classwork grades!  Still need the link?  Download money_money_money.ppt   Block 4 and 6 will turn this in on Monday!  Homework is to finish the contrast picture of Sihpo's township and Jo'burg.  You will need a pocket folder with prongs for class by Monday to put your novel study papers in.

Advanced Content:  Your personal finance packet is due on Friday as wel as the Samurai webquest .  Each student has been assigned a novel, The Samurai's Tale.

Butterflies On Level- We began reading "No Turning Back", a novel about post apartheid South Africa.  We will complete the novel study over the next few weeks.  Block 3 will turn in the personla finance  packet due  Friday!  Blocks 4 and 6 will turn theirs in on Monday!

Advanced Content-  We began "The Samurai's Tale" and will read the novel over the next few weeks.  The personal finance packet is due on Friday!  Complete your Samurai's Tale webquest for homework.

Horseshoes Tomorrow is the big day!  They have saved the best for last!  The Social Studies CRCT is on TuesdayGood luck to all of you.  Remember to read the questions carefully and eliminate the ones you know are wrong.  You have learned the material...now go show what you know!

Check yesterday's BLOG for the power point link.  All Friday classes should have done through credit on the organizer to be caught up....if not, take a few minutes to take care of that now.

CRCT continues on until Tuesday.  Get rest this weekend and come back Monday refreshed and ready to go!
